Hello Everyone. Sorry once again for being idle we didn't had any ideas of what to add to the blog. But now we have! You may have noticed a new section on the homepage called games where you can find for now only X-Space. What is X-Space? To keep things short: X-Space is a top down space shooter where you have to make it to the end without getting damaged. You can find more info and download the game on GameJolt or itch.io.
In this blog post we will talk about X-Space's Development. So let's begin!
1. X-Space from start to finish
Cookie Man, the founder and "owner" of Cookie Games is also the developer of X-Space. He explains that X-Space could never be published since it was just a test project but he wanted to see the reaction of the players! He started experimenting with Game Maker Studio 2 and created the first closed pre-alpha version of X-Space in about 1 month and showed it to koko_veni. Koko_veni liked it a bit so Cookie Man started to work on it more often. After 2 more months, Cookie Man released on March 1st of 2019 the first open alpha version of X-Space. It started getting noticed and Cookie Man starting making updates to the game until April. Cookie Man wasn't pleased with X-Space as a game and did not had any ideas of how he could help it to be better but had ideas for other games.
2. The Music of X-Space
The OST of X-Space was composed by Cookie Man and koko_veni using Bosca Ceoil. The Mainmenu and Level theme were made quickly so Cookie Man could have more time for developing more "core" game stuff. Koko_veni composed the leitmotif of the Credits theme and Cookie Man remixed it to fit with the more retro space theme and continued it a bit. Cookie Man spent the most time of composing on the Boss theme. Cookie Man already composed it before but lost the song file which required him to recreate it. It was a bit different than the old one and some of the parts of it were better and some of them not so good as the old one. Since X-Space is just a test project it doesn't mean that the songs of it belong to it meaning that you may hear at least a leitmotif that appeared on a X-Space song to be found on another future game of Cookie Games.
3. The Bosses of X-Space
Cookie Man was once experimenting with healthbars and bosses for X-Space. But to keep things short, since he didn't manage to make them work properly, the X-Space's only boss is just decorative. You may be wondering who is that boss appearing on X-Space? His name is Piggitron. His name was inspired by a Minecraft Pet Epicman had named Piggiton. And that's it. But Piggitron also doesn't originally belong to X-Space meaning you may see him again in the future.
4. More Unused features
Before X-Space was cancelled, Cookie Man was working on a new update for X-Space with new levels, bosses, blocks and more. The only features that were done were the Glass block which could destroy projectiles and be destroyed by players and enemies. Speaking of Players, Cookie Man made 3 more player sprites meaning that 5 player multiplayer was planned to be added. But because of not enought space for comfortable keybinds this never happened. But the sprites and their functions excluding their controls still exist in the files. Their colors were: yellow, orange and pink. Cookie Man was also trying to fix the Multiplayer Game Over Screen bug and make the fullscreen screen resolution resizable as well as making use of an unused boss and adding a secret level!
5. The Epic Update and the Open-Source Update
After the official announcement of X-Space being cancelled, Cookie Man tried to make 2 secret updates. One being changing the boss to an epicman boss sprite for Epic Man's birthday and the other adding a few secrets and making the game open-source!
This never happened but there may still be a possibility for the Open-Source Update! We'd love to see what our fans could do with it!
That's about it for now, will meet again asap on the next blog post. For now goodbye!
